Diving Officers Communication (Jan 2000)

A New Year is now upon us; we are looking to better the results achieved in 1999, but to do this we need everyone within the club to help.

As last month’s reports, there has been very little diving carried out, but there has been some. Barrow tanks has not been utilised to complete any disciplines that could have been carried out at this venue, this is an opportunity to get them completed before we start the club diving season with our trip to Salcombe. Some of the membership has been diving, but only to do checkout dives of equipment (and to get wet), this venue can be used for a variety of things, so why don’t you use it.

If there is anyone willing to organise a days diving or an expedition that is not yet publicised, please let me know as soon as possible and add it to the planner in the Club’s notice board folder

If you visit the club web site and look at the schedule for next year, you will see the dives that have been planned already. If you can think of a site that we might like to visit let me know. I would be happy if you would list any of these places, as well as if you would be available to organise and/or lead the expedition.

Training

As with the diving there is very little to report on training. Pool work has started for our new intake and the lecture program is to start soon, we will be using the boat shed as a venue for these.

Anyone requiring open water disciplines should think about attending a trip to Barrow as previously mentioned. For the next few weeks we will be making full use of this venue, so if you need a skill, ask Andy or myself if we can accommodate you. As previously stated in the past there will be at least two, probably three dives available – the last being into the Winford Arms for a well-deserved refreshment and warm up. They do a very good and reasonable Sunday lunch as well.

General

Not a lot has happened this month, but that could be due to everyone recovering from the festive season or getting over the Flu epidemic that has been sweeping through Bristol and surrounding area’s. We have seen some new members joining the club over the last few weeks and a lecture program has been drawn up for these new starts. There is also a program for Sports Divers and Dive Leader starting in the near future, the dates for these are also listed below. Keep an eye on the Notice Folder for any additional event that are to take place or you might just miss them. There are various skill development courses being run by our local area coaches, the last being First Aid for Divers, thanks for Bristol Uni. For supplying the venue and the other instructors for helping out, we had 8 members doing the course and they all enjoyed the day. There will soon be a Practical Rescue Management course taking place, so if you would like to attend please let me know.

We are organising working parties to the boat shed over the next few weeks to get things ready for the water, PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE or there may only be shore diving being done this season.
