Summer Fun Night – Cromhall (Aug 2007)

by Pete & Tim.

imgres19th July, 2007 : Exciting news everyone. We have been very fortunate and have secured the services of an entertaining celebrity chef for the night – I can’t say too much at the moment but his reputation goes before him. ( As well as other bits of him !!!)

So don’t forget. It’s Wednesday 1st August at Cromall lake for fun and games in, on, out and under the water and a barbeque as well. Its just too good to miss!

All welcome, bring the family for a good evening out and all for only £1.50.+ food.

Please let me know as soon as possible as we only have a few places left and they are going quick.

The road around is flooded but we will ferry people through the water to the beach.

Please let Jo know if you are coming and haven’t done so already as she needs to know about food.

If you are taking part in the games please bring Wet suit or similar, mask fins and snorkel. All games will be in shallow, waist deep water, and will be safe for anyone to take part in

And in case you don’t know where it is or how to get there here are some directions for you.

If you have SatNav or good old-fashioned Autoroute the postcode is GL12 8AA. It is actually quite an easy place to find.

From Bristol you can come a couple of ways, if you go north on the M5, exit at Junction 14 (that’s the one after the M4/M5 interchange) and turn right at the top of the slip road, towards Charfield/Chipping Sodbury/Yate. Stay on that road for about 2 miles until you get to the T-junction, and then turn right. The quarry is about a half-mile or a mile along that road on the right. If you get to a turning on the right signposted Leyhill (near the Royal Oak PH) you’ve gone too far.

Alternatively from Bristol you can go towards Winterbourne on the B4058 from Hambrook. Continue through Winterbourne High Street towards Yate/Chipping Sodbury. After about 3 or 4 miles you’ll go over a level crossing, just ahead is a set of traffic lights, go straight on through these and at the next set, turn left signposted B4058 Wooton Under Edge. Stay on this road for several miles, going through Rangeworthy and Bagstone eventually you’ll come into Cromhall, go past the turning for Leyhill (which is on the left on a sharp right hand bend, and continue for about a mile. The quarry is then on the left hand side.

Whichever direction you come from the entrance to the quarry isn’t that obvious, its fairly rural there but you will see some buildings and a large set of gates, beyond these gates you will see lots of coaches, drive in here and follow the track diagonally through to the right, follow the small signs with a picture of an old fashioned diving helmet.
