It’s a whole new year and it’s a whole new Winter Warmer!

The club has run a yearly ‘Winter Warmer’ for many a year to close out the years’ diving and so tend to schedule it in mid November & take what the weather gods throw at us.

Obviously there’s still a pandemic going the rounds but we can hope that by November a degree of normalcy might have returned to the world.

There are a few changes but in essence its’ a chance to check out some of those Plymouth sites that have been missing you & perhaps try some you’ve never dived.

The important stuff:-

Our usual dive boat ‘TopGun’ has moved on to pastures new (she’s gone north to join a small fleet providing diving around Orkney & Shetland) & her skipper, Gary Kelham has retired (from skippering) so this year there’s a new chariot & skipper.

We will be diving with http://www.abysscharters.co.uk/ on Abyss ably skippered by Ivor.

• Abys is 8 metre Blyth Work Cat fitted out for diving with a lift & huge 14 by 14 ft deck & generous benches allowing ample space for kitting up and carriage of extra kit, whilst dry storage for bags is available in each forward hull space. She can carry a maximum of 12 passengers and 2 crew. She carries a full complement of safety gear (life raft, lifejackets, first aid etc.) Facilities on board include a sea toilet, 230 volt power, hot water for beverages and a microwave oven.
• Ivor, aka Faz, spent 24 years as an Army driver before a change of career allowed him to follow his dream of owning and skippering a dive boat. A diver since 1998, Faz is a BSAC Advanced Diver, Open Water Instructor, and has even dabbled in the dark art of Trimix diving.

The cost for the boat is £550 per day (2 dives) which includes pasties (or similar), hot drinks, usually Ivors’ wife’s cake and all the crap jokes and soft insults he can muster.

Though coded for 12 I suggest we opt for what we did on TopGun which is 10 divers which means it’s £110 each for the diving & we sort out our own accommodation.

Finally this year the trip will be the weekend of 13/14 November as its’ neaps & the slack times on both days (9:30-10:30 & 10:30-11:30) are better.
